Lucerne Valley, Ca
This was the first round of the year for the National Hare and Hound Series that was held in Lucerne Valley. Like every year the Desert MC's put on a pretty exciting and tough course. The bomb start was about 5 miles long right in the valley. It was a very smooth, fast, and safe bomb. All of the riders were allowed to ride the bomb the day before the race.
The race started at 9:30am Sunday morning. I placed my race bike out on the starting line at 6:30am to reserve my spot on the right side. Destry, Kurt, and Kendal were on the right side as well. The banner was raised a little after 9:30am. The banner was up for more than a minute, then dropped. My 511 TXC Husqvarna started with a push of a button. I had a pretty good jump off the line right behind Destry and Kendal. Caselli had a bad jump off the line, but he pulled past Destry, Kendal, Pearson, and myself by the end of the bomb.
Destry and Kendal both went down in the rocks before an up hill. Destry got back up and Kendal slowly got up and ended up DNFing! I got a stick in my radiator of my Husky, and was running 4th. She decided to stall in a wash about 7 miles after the bomb. I got my Husky to start, but had to limp the bike straight back to the pits and retire. I ended up with a DNF, but I am looking forward to the 2nd round in Ridgecrest!
With Caselli leading til the 3rd loop, the bottom end of hid bike gave out about 1 mile from the finish giving David Pearson the lead to the finish. Destry finished 2nd. Caselli pushed his bike a mile to the finish and ended up 5th overall.
